How does Halotherapy Help? - Allergies

Many Oklahomans are affected by seasonal allergies. In fact, in a study throughout the entire United States, statista ranked Oklahoma City as the 9th worst city suffering from allergies in Spring 2020.

Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance, such as pollen or other airborne particles. Your immune system produces substances known as antibodies to combat harmful substances in the body. When you have allergies, your immune system makes antibodies that misidentify a particular allergen as harmful even though it isn’t. When you come into contact with an allergen that your antibodies identify as harmful your immune system’s reaction can inflame your skin, sinuses, airways, or digestive system.

Halotherapy can help reduce the symptoms you experience from your allergies. Inflammation is reduced due to natural properties of the inhaled salt particles, which also thin bronchial and nasal secretions. The resulting improved drainage allows for a reduction in contaminants that may trigger or prolong allergic episodes. Additionally, salt’s ability to absorb edema (excess watery fluid) from swollen mucosa linings in the sinuses and respiratory tract opens airways to bring about the quick relief of symptoms.

Long term studies with allergy patients in Russia reported remarkable improvement over a period of 10 years. These findings have led Halotherapy, or Dry Salt Therapy, to be recognized as a certified allergy treatment by the Russian Ministry of Health and other associations in Europe.
